Nikkei report says internet giant is in talks with several companies to procure green power in the country
Amazon is in discussions with Japanese power companies and trading houses to source electricity from renewable energy projects, including offshore wind, in Japan, according to a report by local financial news group Nikkei.
The report said Amazon is looking at ways to buy green energy in the country to supply to its data centres.
It added that one Japanese trading house is aiming to bid to build an offshore wind farm near Akita prefecture that would supply Amazon.
Nikkei said the internet giant is also in talks regarding a new solar plant in Japan.
Amazon had not responded to a request for comment at press time.
